End Federal Marijuana Prohibition

We have a chance to finally rid ourselves of the Federal Prohibition of marijuana. Representatives Tom Garrett (R-VA) and Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) have introduced bipartisan legislation, HR 1227, to exclude marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, thus leaving states the authority to regulate the plant how best they see fit.  You can read the bill in its entirety here.

The “Ending Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2017” eliminates federal criminal penalties for possessing and growing the plant. This legislation gives states the power and flexibility to establish their own marijuana policies free from federal interference.

Representative Garrett says that marijuana prohibition disproportionately impacts those residing in jurisdictions of lower socioeconomic status, and believes that state governments are plenty capable of setting their own marijuana policies.“Virginia is more than capable of handling its own marijuana policy, as are states such as Colorado or California,” he said in a prepared statement.
The intent of the “Ending Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2017 is consistent with the view of most voters. According to recent polling (items 63, 64 and 65) by Quinnipiac University, 59 percent of Americans support full marijuana legalization and 71 percent believe that states, not the federal government, should set marijuana policy.
With the recent confirmation of militant marijuana prohibitionist Jeff Sessions to the position of US Attorney General, and with comments from the Trump administration warning of a coming federal crackdown in adult use states, passage of this Act is necessary to ensure that medical marijuana patients and others are protected from undue federal interference.
Please write or call your representative.  NORML has a pre-written letter that you can send here.
Thanks to NORML for all of the support they provide for ending marijuana prohibition in the land of the free.

It Is About Dying Kids…Period!

Did you hear the scandalous news about Bono and VP Mike Pence?  Are you ready?  Bono thanked VP Pence for being a key supporter of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) passed in 2003 and then renewed in 2008.

Bono told the VP “Twice on the House floor you defended that. That’s how we know you, and we really appreciate that…”  Here is the video of the heinous act.  Let’s be clear on what Bono is being attacked for doing.  He is being attacked for thanking a government official that helped make it possible to help poor, starving people avoid the transmission of HIV.

Bono is a peddler.  He peddles his music with his boys from U2 and he peddles his influence wrought from his music to help the most marginalized people on planet earth.  I am not an expert on PEPFAR or RED or U2, however, I am interested in helping the poor and sick.  You can see the impact RED has had globally in great detail at their website.  Here is a quick glance at how the organization has helped.  According to RED, they have raised $465 million to support The Global Fund’s work. In addition, 90 million people have been helped in Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, and Zambia.  Also, every red cent of money raised goes directly to the people in need.  No money is used for administrative purposes.

If you believe in a cause as important as helping folks with HIV why would you give a damn where the money came from?  Bono would take money from the devil if he could.  Why not?  Why not take money to help people?  Should Bono have told the VP to piss off and ask him to tell President Trump the same?  Donald Trump did not have my vote-I don’t think you could have done anything to get me to vote for him….except several million dollars to help suffering, poor and diseased people.

A Prayer For Our New President

As we prepare to inaugurate the 45th president of the United States we echo this prayer that Billy Graham prayed at the inauguration of George H W Bush.
“And now we come to a new era in our history. In Thy sovereignty Thou hast permitted {Donald J. Trump} to lead us at this momentous hour of our history for the next four years. As he today places his hand upon the Bible and solemnly swears before Thee to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, give him the wisdom, integrity and courage to help this become a nation that is gentle and kind. Protect him from physical danger, and in the lonely moments of decision grant him Thy wisdom to know what is morally right and an uncompromising courage to do it. Give him a cool head and a warm heart. Give him a compassion for those in physical, moral and spiritual need. O God, we consecrate today George Herbert Walker Bush to the presidency of these United States with the assurance that from this hour on, as he and his family move into the White House, they will have the presence and power of the One who said, “I will never leave thee or forsake thee. [Hebrews 13:5]”—Billy Graham, 1989 inaugural invocation

Marijuana Smackdown I

Several weeks ago I saw an article published in a nationally recognized web-based magazine that approached marijuana legalization in a very irresponsible and intellectually dishonest manner.  At that time I said I would go through that article point by point.  I have changed my mind.  However, over the next few weeks, I will post several little mini-articles that address some of the most prevalent myths concerning marijuana.

Any controversial issue such as cannabis legalization can be a touchy subject. In addition to getting folks all fired up  the web and TV are filled with inaccurate information.  My goal is to simply state my opinion.  Most of my posts will deal with recreational marijuana because in my opinion medical marijuana doesn’t seem to cause as much confusion as legalization.

  1. Seven states and the District of Columbia have made the recreational use of cannabis legal.  Many people I have heard from are having a difficult time understanding the legal but regulated use of cannabis.  Just think alcohol.  The government sets a legal age of consumption and regulations that make it clear as to the particulars of use. While there is variance in the state laws concerning cannabis use and consumption there are also many similarities just are there are with alcohol laws and use across America.

One issue all of the states that have legalized cannabis agree on is the age of people who are legally allowed to use cannabis.  Here is a rundown of the legal age to purchase and consume cannabis.  Do you notice a similarity amongst the ages that each state has set for use?

California 21

Oregon 21 years

Washington 21 years

District of Columbia 21 years

Nevada 21 years

Massachusetts 21 years

Maine 21 years

Colorado 21 years

Alaska 21 years

Abraham Lincoln and Turkey

Not much commentary is needed on this following piece of classic American history.  The words of President Lincoln ring as true today as they did in 1863.  Given this particular time in History that we find ourselves Lincoln’s words are prophetic and wise.

Happy Thanksgiving!  This day is special. We should not  forget those that for various reasons are away from the families they love.  Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, first responders,  the ill and those who care for them and the prisoner and the oppressed.

Washington, D.C.
October 3, 1863

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the United States the Eighty-eighth.

Coming Soon-The marijuana smack down!

Recently,  a popular online Christian website published an article about why teens should not smoke pot.  It was one of the most ludicrous, laugh out loud funny and journalistically dishonest pieces I have read in a long time.  Full disclosure I am a practicing follower of Jesus Christ.  Look for this article to come out sometime in the next week.

Donald Trump vs. Media

I did not vote for President Elect Trump.  I am a Libertarian and Mr. Trump and the Republican party love big government.  Sad but true.

One aspect of the forthcoming Trump administration that excites me is the way that the Trump team is hitting back and landing heavy blows to the elitist, left wing and absolutely bias media in this country.  For years I have waited for any politician, especially a right wing politician to blatantly tell the press to piss off.  By the way,  Fox News is guilty as well.  It seems as if the days of simple fact based reporting are gone.  I will be watching with my popcorn because I KNOW the media will not change AND I know the Trump team won’t stop either.  This will be kind of fun.

If you disagree with me don’t bother to complain or think crtitically about my writing because you are too stupid to understand and everything I say is true anyway.
